Resolutions to be considered re: the State Senate controversy

The 48th Legislative District Democrats’ reorganization meeting for the 2013-2014 term will convene on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at 7:00 PM. The meeting location is Studio B of the Northwest Arts Center, 9825 NE 24th St, Bellevue.

Please note that this date is different than the originally published date, in consideration of members who may wish to attend the Inaugural festivities in Olympia for our new Governor, Jay Inslee, on January 16.

The main order of business for the meeting is the election of a new Executive Board for the 2013-2014 term.

The remainder of the meeting will consist of reports from the past term’s officers and consideration of any new business, at the discretion of the then newly-elected Chair.

In light of recent events affecting the State Senate, the current Executive Board anticipates that some members will wish to propose resolutions for consideration in the “new business” portion of the January meeting. As a courtesy to the incoming Executive Board, and to help facilitate the handling of such resolutions in an orderly fashion, we request that proposed resolutions be submitted no later than Wednesday, January 2, 2013, for review and reconciliation by an ad-hoc subcommittee of the current Executive Board. Resolutions should be submitted in Microsoft Word format to (subject line: Proposed Resolution), and should be accompanied by the name and phone number of the member submitting it.

Although not recommended, a member may still propose a resolution from the floor by an ordinary motion. The proposer of such a resolution would be well-advised to bring printed copies in sufficient quantity to facilitate its consideration and discussion during the meeting.

We hope you will bear with us as we conduct our business in accordance with our governance policies, which may include the need for confidential handling of specific issues. We serve for the betterment of the organization, and sometimes it takes your patience to do so.
