While COVID continues to present major public health risks, the Washington State Democrats will prioritize the health and well-being of the residents of the state by continuing to conduct business virtually. The WSD Executive Committee reaffirmed the virtual meeting venue as of their meeting on July 27th, 2021 with a unanimous vote to hold the September meeting virtually. As with the 2020 State Convention, the 2020 National Convention, and the most recent meetings of the State Central Committee (SCC) at the end of last year and beginning of this year, this meeting will present new and unique challenges. We appreciate your patience and continued support as we work to deliver the most inclusive and successful meeting possible.
As has been the case since September of 2020, we will be operating under the Rules for Virtual Meetings. This means the same methods for seeking the floor (via text message), submitting amendments to committee reports (seven days in advance), and viewing Committee Reports and Meeting Documents (via the Google Drive found here).
Ahead of this meeting, please note that we are conducting a listening session, on Sunday September 19th, focused on the eventual transition back to in-person meetings. While COVID-19 is a persistent public health problem, the format of the January 2022 meeting of the Central Committee has not yet been finalized — nor has the format of the State Convention in June 2022. While we will not be making any decisions at this meeting regarding either of these components, we wanted to solicit members’ feelings, both on a return to in-person and a continuance of virtual meeting environments.
The meeting of Central Committee itself will occur on Saturday, September 25th, starting at 9:00am Pacific, via Zoom and livestreamed to YouTube. The meeting will conclude when business is completed. A Zoom call-in line will also be available. Please be aware that full participation in this meeting will require, at a minimum, a smart phone device with a browser to access your ballots during voting. It is recommended that you use a laptop or desktop device for the best experience.
If you do not have an internet-connected device, please reach out to PartyAffairs@wa-democrats.org and we will support you in finding an accessible system to ensure your participation. All meetings listed in the below schedule will be hosted on Zoom, but please be aware that we cannot guarantee full functionality for every meeting if you are not attending with a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet device.
As always, please reach out to Drew Estep, Party Affairs Director, if you have any questions or concerns, at Drew@wa-democrats.org.
